ABOUT SC7

SOUTH CAROLINA SC7 is a partnership between two South Carolina based non-profit organizations, Global Eco Adventures and the South Carolina National Heritage Corridor. The mission of SC7 is to get people in the outdoors so they gain an appreciation for the outdoors, and therefore begin to actively do their part to protect the outdoors.

The signature event of SC7 is a 30-day expedition across South Carolina in July and led by world renowned explorer and South Carolina native, Tom Mullikin. Following the Palmetto Trail as the guiding pathway from the mountains to the sea, the annual expedition highlights the ‘CAROLINA 7’ – so-named for the seven geographic wonders unique to the Palmetto State. Along the SC7 2023 route, the expedition team will hold large-scale public events, media events, “Lunch & Learns”, the “Adventure Out” weekend in Charleston, and a Finish Line Celebration.

Tom Mullikin is a goal-setter. Among his loftiest achievements, Tom has dived all of the world’s five oceans and climbed mountain ranges of the world’s seven tallest peaks (including reaching the summits of more than 20 mountains across the globe). He has served as a “National Geographic Expert,” is a Fellow in the famed Manhattan-based Explorer’s Club and a Fellow in London’s Royal Geographical Society.

A former U.S. Army JAG officer, Tom received certification as an Army Master Fitness Trainer, and he has since led members of the U.S. armed forces and veterans of the U.S. Army Special Forces community on expeditions around the world.

Currently serving as chair of the Governor’s S.C. Floodwater Commission (SCFC), Tom is leading the effort to build a flood-mitigating ocean-reef off the coast of South Carolina among other large SCFC projects, while simultaneously overseeing the work of his non-profit Global Eco Adventures.

Tom is leading a first-of-its-kind expedition across South Carolina in July 2020.

Following the Palmetto Trail as the guiding pathway from the mountains to the sea, the expedition will highlight the ‘CAROLINA 7’ – so-named for the seven geographic wonders unique to the Palmetto State. The purpose of the expedition is to bring attention to the natural marvels that need our protection and the myriad outdoor adventures that await us from our own backyards and beyond.

Along the route will be opportunities to discuss topics such as conservation, resiliency, adult and childhood fitness, outdoor therapy, floodwater-mitigation issues, and more. These discussions will take place through a series of fireside chats led by key partners in the outdoor and conservation industries. The goal of the fireside chats is to stimulate action that will take place long after the expedition ends.

Tom invites you to join him. Become a sponsor, a participant, or a messenger. Let’s do this South Carolina!
